New England Carousel Museum, Bristol, CT - The New England Carousel Museum is hosting a FREE Halloween costume party for children on Monday, October 31st from 4:30-6:00 PM. Children of all ages and their families are invited to come and participate in this festive annual event. The party will include refreshments and treats for attendees, as well as themed games and crafts. There will also be a costume contest starting at 5:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, most original, and best Halloween character costumes, as well as most creative. Each child will receive a Halloween goodie bag. Admission to this event is FREE for children and $1.00 for adults. Space is limited to the first 200 children and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Call (860) 585-4811 for reservations.

The New England Carousel Museum is located at 95 Riverside Avenue, RT 72 W, in Bristol, CT 06010. Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Sunday noon - 5:00 PM. Admission: $6.00 adults, $5.50 seniors, $3.50 children 4-14, $2.00 children 1-3. Members are free. The building is available to rent for receptions, weddings, meetings and classes. The Museum provides tours, tour and craft programs, birthday parties for children of all ages, youth group sleepovers and educational outreach programs. Bushnell Park Carousel 102nd Birthday Celebration with Costume Party and Children’s Halloween Extravaganza!

People of all ages are invited to the 102nd birthday party for the historic Bushnell Park Carousel featuring family entertainment, birthday cake, and free rides all day. The event will take place on Sunday, October 30th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carousel’s pavilion in Downtown Hartford’s Bushnell Park. Activities will include face-painting, music, miniature train rides around Bushnell Park, magicians, balloon twisters, and costumed characters to entertain visitors. Wear your Halloween costume and stop by to take a ride and enjoy the wonderful, family- friendly activities.  At 11 a.m., the event will kick-off with the crowd singing Happy Birthday to the Merry-Go-Round.  Birthday cake will be served at 12 noon at no charge, while supplies last. The Bushnell Park Carousel is one of less than 200 antique wooden carousels that remain in operation in the U.S. – down from thousands at the turn-of-the-century.

The New England Carousel Museum & Bushnell Park Carousel Present the 2016 Carousel Art Contest for Students

The New England Carousel Museum and the Bushnell Park Carousel are sponsoring an art contest for students in celebration of National Art and Humanities Month. The contest opened on October 1st and continues through November 13th.  Students in Pre-K through 12th grade are asked to create an original drawing or painting of a carousel animal. Pre-K and kindergarten students are welcome to use the carousel horse coloring page on our website at www.thecarouselmuseum.org. Entries must not exceed 30” x 30”, and must include the artist’s name, address, phone number, and grade level on the back.

First, second, third, and honorable mention prizes will be awarded in five age categories. In addition, there will be a Best in Show award and a special Executive Director’s Choice award. First prize winners will receive $50, second prize winners receive a $25 gift card to the Carousel Museum gift shop, and third prize winners will receive a $15 gift card to Dick Blick Art Shop. All winners receive four admission passes to the Museum and four free rides at Bushnell Park Carousel. There are several honorable mention award ribbons as well!  Prizes will be distributed at the awards ceremony on Sunday, November 27th at 2pm

Entries must be submitted by mail or in person to the New England Carousel Museum at 95 Riverside Avenue in Bristol, CT, by Sunday, November 13th. Judging will begin on Tuesday, November 15th by a committee made up of our Head of Restoration, Judy Baker, local artist and 2015 ACE Award recipient, Rick Fitzsimons, and our Education Specialist, Cate Mahoney

The New England Carousel Museum is dedicated to the acquisition, restoration, and preservation of operating carousels and carousel memorabilia and the creation of new carousel material, for the education and pleasure of the general public. The main mission of the New England Carousel Museum, a non-profit organization, is to preserve and protect antique wooden carousels and carousel pieces. We believe that the way to accomplish this task is through education. We are in the business of educating the children, who are the next generation of carousel lovers.

From I 84 East, take Exit 31 (Rt. 229 West Street) to Bristol. Follow Rt. 72 West to the Museum.

From I 84 West, take Exit 33 to Rt. 72 West (Bristol-Plainville). At end of expressway, take right on Rt. 72 West.

From Route 8, take Exit 39 (Rt. 6 East) to Bristol. Follow Rt. 72 East to the Museum.

From New York City, take 95 North to New Haven, 91 North to Meriden, 691 West to 84 East (Towards Hartford) to exit 31 (Route 229 North - West Street). Left off exit. Follow Route 229 to Route 72 West. To Riverside Avenue to New England Carousel Museum.

From Litchfield Center, take Route 118 East to Route 8 South to Thomaston. Follow Route 6 East to Route 72 - Four miles to the New England Carousel Museum.

From Farmington, take Route 10 to Route 6 Scott Swamp Rd. Take right turn onto Route 6 at the Silo Restaurant. Route 6 goes through Bristol to Route 229. Take a left onto Route 229 past Eastern High School to the railroad underpass, stay in far right lane. Take a right hand turn right after the underpass. Follow Route 72 to Riverside Ave. Go past the Hostess Bread store, look for the Stately Floor building on your left. New England Carousel Museum is right across the street in a large long red brick building on a hill. Come up the driveway and park near the gazebo.

From Stratford, go through Terryville, look for 72 East when you hit the center. Follow 108 to Route 8 North, take exit 39 to Route 6 East. Go through Plymouth, take Route 72 East through downtown Bristol, stay on until turns into Riverside Ave. Go past the Casket place on your right and the Webster Bank Building on Main St. The Museum will be on your left with a gazebo in front of the building. Stately Floors is across the street.

From New Haven, take 91 North to 691 West to 84 East (Hartford). Take exit 31, turn left onto Route 229 North/West St. Then take Route 72 West in Bristol. About a mile on Route 72 on your right is the Museum, a gazebo is out in front of the building.

From New London, take 95 South to Route 9 North, follow all the way to New Britain. Route 9 changes into Route 72, follow Route 72 off highway through Forestville to Bristol. Stay on Route 72 West to Riverside Ave. to the New England Carousel Museum, a white gazebo is in front of the building.

From Massachusetts, take 84 West through Hartford, take exit 33 to Route 72 West (Bristol-Plainville). At the end of the expressway, take a right onto Route 72 West and follow to the New England Carousel Museum. Look for the white gazebo in front of the building.


The Bushnell Park Carousel is located in Bushnell Park, 1 Jewell Street,,in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. From I-84 West, take exit 48A. At the end of the exit ramp, make a right onto Asylum Street. Keep right, following the edge of the Park through Memorial Arch, and you will see the carousel on your left. From I-84 East, take exit 48 and turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Asylum Street. Keep right, following the edge of the Park through Memorial Arch, and you will see the carousel on your left.
