The Noah Webster House, probably built c. 1748, is the restored birthplace and childhood home of the great lexicographer, Noah Webster. The house, once part of a 120-acre farm, was continuously occupied until it was given to the town of West Hartford in 1962. Eventually a concerned group of interested citizens formed the Noah Webster Foundation and worked to restore the house. In 1966 the house was opened to the public as a museum. In 1970, the West Hartford Historical Society merged with the Foundation. Today, the museum building includes the historical house, library, archives, shop and a modern exhibition gallery. The Noah Webster House is West Hartford's only National Historic Landmark.
